Title: Fathomable
Fandom: Disney (The Little Mermaid)
Pairing: Eric/Ariel

Notes: Written for the Disney Kink Meme, prompt “Eric/Ariel, the weather becomes unbearably hot, and Ariel decides to wander around Eric’s castle nude, having no concept of modesty. Turned…
Just finished reading this and it was pretty darned awesome. :) It’s poetic and rich with tension, and I’d definitely recommend reading it for yourselves!
“It wasn’t like sailing. Nothing like horseback riding, either, but something in a class all its own. No looking down and seeing the wake of a ship, safe and dry on deck. His feet skirted the ocean, as deep and blue as the sky, riding on a creature he’d never met outside of sailors’ tales and faraway glances.
And yet somehow it was home. He felt it in the warmth of the sea, and in the way Ariel’s eyes shined with belonging as she craned her neck to see the stars.”
I can’t really give an accurate recommendation about this fic since, well, I wrote it. But take a look-see if you like, and I appreciate any comments and feedback for the future.
“He can see her breathing fast, her body taut and excited, her lips smiling, if uncertain. She wants to continue as badly has he does, she simply doesn’t know what’s next.”
I’ve seen this kind of scenario in fic so many times that I was initially skeptical. Of course, I was mistaken. There’s just the right balance of awkward and idealized imagery that makes this fic as good to read for the connection and character as it is for the subject. The writing is spare, clear, and poignant. For lack of a better word, I was drowning in squee the first time I read this. One of my favorites of the fandom.
69. Ohhh dear. I haven’t done a follower milestone post yet, so in a stroke of total maturity, I wondered how to celebrate this. With a pornapalooza, of course! Click so I don’t flood people looking at tumblr in public…this is either going to make me gain followers or make me lose a ton of them.
“He knows she misses it. She’s entranced by bright things — daylight, fire, paintings, birds’ wings — but there are so many things that she’s lost that he doesn’t even understand.”
While futurefics in the mermaid universe can often run too melancholy or out-of-character, Bright Things addresses this in a way that shows Ariel’s bounce-back attitude and awe without sacrificing emotion and conflict. Penknife has an excellent knack for visual symbolism. Warning for mild sexual content.
“She doesn’t want to come too far up the beach, so Eric falls to his knees right there in the shallows. The sea is calm today, only little rippling waves swirl around them as he touches her for the first time.”
Fill for a fairly old Disney Kink Meme prompt: “Sex while Ariel is a mermaid.”
Smut or no smut this is one of my favorite oneshots of the entire fandom. I’m a believer that sex, when treated with the same respect as any other scene, stands equal as long as it’s good writing. And oh my Lord this writing is lyrical and intense and sweet all at the same time. There’s just the right balance of true-to-character tension and idyllic imagery. It presents sex just as it is: powerful, but not without problems.
The subject was a brave one to tackle (and necessary - seriously, why isn’t there more of this in the fandom?) and done so well. Tasteful and bold. Definitely give it a read.
Believing in Heaven is a bittersweet one-shot set in an AU where Ariel remains mute. Candyland has an excellent grasp of character and shows that Ariel and Eric’s love runs far deeper than just a voice. Though the differences stretch long between them, Ariel finds her own way to speak.

“It wasn’t much. There was only a brief press of lips before the boat surged beneath them and overturned, sending them both tumbling into the water in a flurry of flailing limbs and wet hair and soaked clothing and coughing, hacking breaths.”
